"Fabio Rosa is one such entrepreneur, and while his name may not be as well known as many of today's brightest minds, he is the man who brought light to rural Brazil. This may seem an overstatement, but for the farmers living without the benefit of electricity - up to 70% of the rural population - this is no small thing. In fact, it has made a world of difference." 1

- Niel Peterson, Head of Edge Foundation2, in June 2009.

Providing Electricity to Rural Masses

In February 2008, Fabio Rosa (Rosa), a social entrepreneur based in Brazil, was awarded The Leapfrog Fund Award3 sponsored by The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship4 and the Lemelson Foundation5. This was the second time that Rosa was receiving the award, the first being in 2006. The award, among many others, recognized Rosa's efforts at providing rural families living in Brazil with access to electricity (Refer to Exhibit I for Awards Received by Fabio Rosa). Rosa had been working since the year 1983 toward rural electrification in Brazil.
