Providing Electricity to Rural Masses

In February 2008, Fabio Rosa (Rosa), a social entrepreneur based in Brazil, was awarded The Leapfrog Fund Award³ sponsored by The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship⁴ and the Lemelson Foundation⁵. This was the second time that Rosa was receiving the award, the first being in 2006. The award, among many others, recognized Rosa's efforts at providing rural families living in Brazil with access to electricity (Refer to Exhibit I for Awards Received by Fabio Rosa). Rosa had been working since the year 1983 toward rural electrification in Brazil.

Winners were awarded grants worth US$ 75,000 over a 36-month period to facilitate technology transfer.
